I'm looking at the Google map of Jermain Avenue and assuming that the tree is at the corner of Suffolk and Jermain. If that's true, they should expect the speeding cars to be sailing into the field there near the cemetery. Irony! A better solution in my opinion would be a stop sign or even speed bumps. Drivers flying around a curve like this are taking other chances on other roads ALL THE TIME. Cutting down this tree is a silly band-aid. Town officials could also try technology and install camera's. That could bring in some revenue, as well, if it were tied to speeding tickets. (with which they could plant trees? ;)

Tom: "Too narrow" is code for "our emergency services want wide roads". I'm an urban planner and hear that all the time.

Todd: Absolutely correct.

One wonders how many people would have hit the tree if the authorities had simply removed the "warning triangle" and reflector from it...

If I were walking by there and was hit by a curb-jumping car, I woudl sue on the grounds that the removal of the tree created a hazard for ME.

If I owned my home there, I would sue because removing the tree increases the danger to my house.

I'm not an attorney, but it seems to me that removing this tree could just as easily increase litigation. Anyone who hits a tree from now on could argue that the city failed to remove the "unsafe" tree as they had in the past.
