The Latest Slate Column
Headlines stretch things: I wouldn’t call it so much a “defense of jaywalking” as a challenge to the idea that it ranks as the key issue in pedestrian safety. In any case it’s here.
And my Slate colleague Christopher Beam, in my absence, contributed this excellent column on the eternal issue of bicycles and traffic laws.

Good job on the article. Good to get it out there in the popular and bust myth that roads have always been for cars. Here’s an idea. National Jaywalking Day. “Have you had your jaywalk today?”

thanks for reminding me; I found this little nugget of mis-information in my paper awhile back, my emphasis added: “Jaywalking, when a person walks ANYWHERE other than a designated crosswalk, is a CRIME, Mesa (Arizona) POLICE SPOKESPERSON Diana Tapia said”
