I'd also suggest Frank Barker's excellent new book "The Freedoms of Suburbia" - an excellent and delightful contrarian view of urban planning and suburban life in the U.K.

Yea-- not one of those books was specifically about safety, or how to drive, although driving tragedies are common. The Best Driver In The World-- anyone want to help get it in print? What a joke otherwise. Check out the blog, Tom-- it's a different league. Be my 801st reader.

I've got to disagree with #3. In my opinion, the Trabant was the worst car in history. Its pollution must have killed thousands of people and sickened tens of thousands.

Another film reference, from "Dragnet." Dan Ackroyd's character describes the Yugo as "The cutting edge of Serbo-Croatian technology."
