‘Why not get a boat and come to Australia?’

OK, I’m coming by plane, but I couldn’t help but think of that Kinks song. But Antipodean readers who may be in Perth, Canberra, and possibly Sydney — I’ll be coming your way in late August/early September. But do drop a line if it seems our paths will cross, or if you have any recommendations for those towns.

i ate at a restaurant/cafe that overlooked Cottesloe Beach — a beach so beautiful it didn’t look real. can’t remember the name of the place. folks told the story of beachgoers being able to watch a shark devour a swimmer just a few yards offshore. scary.

‘Why not get a boat and come to Australia?’ - because you’ll get chucked in an offshore processing centre for 6 months while someone tries to work out if you’re a persecuted refugee, that’s why not. Come by plane, much safer. :)

Are you doing any speaking gigs in Perth, Tom?

  3. Alex Says:

If you’re doing any presentations in Canberra I would be keen to hear about them! The local “ACT Greens” party has recently had a few seminars on “active transport”. I’m not sure if they’re conducting another one soon, however I’m sure Amanda Bresnan, their transport policies person, would be very keen to talk with you.

While you’re in Canberra, try the Asian Cafe on West Row in the City. Very nice, award winning food.

    New Zealand?

  5. Tom Vanderbilt Says:

New Zealand, how I wish, but alas no! And yes, giving some talks in various places — details to follow in the “upcoming talks” sidebar.
